After competing in the 1500m in Paris, hear first-hand the journey of Kate, our Canadian Regional Manager’s Olympic experience and what it is like leading up to the world stage.

We couldn’t be more proud!

This summer, I had the privilege of joining Team Canada in Paris to compete in the Olympics in the 1500m, an absolutely unforgettable experience. The Olympic preparations began with two training camps: first, a high-altitude training camp in St. Moritz, Switzerland, followed by a heat adaptation camp in Barcelona, Spain. Switzerland was a highlight for the entire Olympic experience as many of the best athletes in the world were living and training in the small, remote, ski village in the Swiss Alps at the same time. The town felt like it was run by professional athletes, all preparing for the Olympic Games.

Three days before my first race, I travelled from Barcelona to Paris with a group of Canadian track athletes. The days leading up to the race were spent laying low and trying to manage the nerves. The Olympic Village was its own unique environment. Athletes from every corner of the globe coming together—each with their own stories, dreams, and ambitions. The days revolved around training and eating. We would drag out mealtimes for several hours to pass the time. It was amazing to be part of Team Canada, where the camaraderie extended beyond just race day.

Walking into a stadium filled with 80,000 fans—four times the population of my hometown, Cobourg—was surreal. The energy from the crowd was electrifying, and stepping onto the track felt like entering another world. The races were intense. Both times I stepped onto the track; I knew I was lining up against the best in the world. Being part of such a high-caliber competition and competing against women who I had idolized for years was truly humbling. While I was disappointed with the outcome of my performances, this experience was once (maybe twice??) in a lifetime and I am beyond grateful to be able to call myself an Olympian.

Representing my country on the biggest stage in the world was an absolute honor, and I’ll carry the memories from this experience with me forever.
